Gov. Abiodun Celebrates Olusegun Osoba at 87, Hails Him as Icon of Democracy, Selfless Service
Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has paid glowing tribute to former Ogun State Governor and elder statesman, Aremo Chief Olusegun Osoba, as he celebrates his 87th birthday, describing him as an extraordinary patriot, accomplished journalist, exceptional democrat, and one of Nigeria’s most respected political leaders.
In a congratulatory message issued on the occasion of the former Governor’s birthday, Governor Abiodun praised Osoba’s lifelong dedication to public service, noting that his remarkable contributions to journalism, politics, and nation-building have earned him a lasting place in Nigeria’s democratic history.
The Governor described the two-time Ogun State governor as a man whose life exemplifies courage, integrity, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to truth, justice, and good governance.
According to Governor Abiodun, Chief Osoba’s influence extends far beyond his years in public office, stressing that he has remained a mentor, bridge-builder, and statesman whose wisdom continues to shape leaders across Ogun State and Nigeria.

He noted that from his distinguished career in journalism, where he rose to become one of Africa’s finest media professionals, to his tenure as governor, Chief Osoba consistently demonstrated that leadership is a sacred responsibility built on integrity, wisdom, and compassion.
Governor Abiodun also acknowledged the elder statesman’s vital role in Nigeria’s democratic struggle, saying Osoba stood firmly for constitutional governance, justice, and the rule of law during some of the country’s most challenging political periods.
The Governor further described Chief Osoba as a father figure whose calm disposition, wealth of experience, and sound counsel have continued to guide successive administrations in Ogun State as well as political leaders across the country.
