Former Ogun Executive Vice Chairmen Renew Appeal to Gov. Dapo Abiodun Over Unpaid Severance, Entitlements

Prince Dapo-Abiodun

The Former Executive Vice Chairmen of Ogun State (2016–2019 set) have once again appealed to the Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, to approve and facilitate the payment of their long-outstanding severance allowances and other statutory entitlements since leaving office in October 2019.

In a statement made available to journalists, the former elected grassroots leaders stated that several letters, representations, and peaceful appeals had been submitted to the government over the years in the hope of receiving what they described as their lawful entitlements as former public office holders.

According to the group, their appeal is not politically motivated but rather a sincere call for fairness, justice, and humane consideration for individuals who served Ogun State diligently across various Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) between 2016 and 2019.

The former Vice Chairmen emphasized that they fully understand that severance benefits and related entitlements only become due after the completion of tenure, which officially ended in October 2019.

They further appealed to Governor Abiodun to emulate the precedent set by previous administrations in Ogun State, which, according to them, made efforts to offset inherited severance obligations owed to former political office holders in the spirit of continuity, responsibility, and respect for public service.

The statement also expressed sadness over the reported deaths of some former political office holders who allegedly passed away while still awaiting payment of their entitlements.

“It is deeply painful that some of our colleagues who served the state faithfully are no longer alive to benefit from what is legitimately due to them. We therefore passionately appeal to His Excellency to kindly pay us while we are still alive,” the statement read.

The group reiterated that they are not asking for favours or political compensation, but are simply appealing for the settlement of lawful entitlements attached to the offices they occupied while serving the people of Ogun State.

They expressed confidence in the Governor’s sense of justice, compassion, and leadership, while hoping that their renewed appeal would receive urgent and favourable consideration.
