Chef Allegedly Drugs Employer, Steals N150m Luxury Watches, Valuables

A domestic Chef identified as John Cosmos Govi has been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force over an alleged plot to drug members of a household and steal luxury items worth about ₦150 million from a residence in Abuja.
Global Mirror News gathered that the suspect is facing allegations bordering on criminal conspiracy, housebreaking, administering harmful substances, malicious destruction of property, and theft.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Anthony Placid, investigations revealed that the suspect, who reportedly attended a catering school in Cotonou, Benin Republic, secured employment as a Chef in the residence before allegedly teaming up with two accomplices identified as Peter and Moses, who are currently at large.
Police said the suspect allegedly monitored the movement of residents and studied the security structure of the house for some time before carrying out the operation on April 23, 2026.
Investigators further disclosed that meals prepared in the residence were allegedly mixed with a suspected sedative substance intended to weaken the occupants and security personnel.
After the substance reportedly took effect, the suspect allegedly granted his accomplices access into the building, where the gang vandalised the CCTV system, searched the apartment, and escaped with cash and twenty luxury wristwatches estimated to be worth ₦150 million.
ACP Placid said operatives of the Force Intelligence Department Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) later tracked and intercepted the suspect along the Gwagwalada axis while he was allegedly attempting to flee to Lagos.
Police also recovered an iPhone 17 Pro Max said to belong to the victim, alongside a suspected chemical substance now undergoing forensic examination.
The Police added that efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects and recover other stolen valuables connected to the case.
