Police Arrest Six Over Mob Killing of Two Travellers Mistaken for Motorcycle Thieves

The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested six suspects in connection with the gruesome mob killing of two travellers who were falsely accused of stealing a motorcycle in Gidan Kalu Village, located in the Birnin Gwari axis of the state.

Global Mirror News gathered that the tragic incident occurred on July 1, 2026, when the victims, identified as Aliyu Mohammed, 40, and Muhammadu Sani, 45, were travelling on a motorcycle to Tundun Wada, Zaria, to visit their ailing Uncle.

According to the Police, the two men were passing through Gidan Kalu Village when some residents allegedly became suspicious after noticing them riding a new motorcycle. The unidentified individuals reportedly began shouting “thieves,” attracting the attention of other villagers.

Sensing danger, the travellers reportedly abandoned the motorcycle and attempted to flee. However, they were chased by an irate mob, who caught up with them and brutally attacked them before lynching them to death.

Following a complaint, operatives attached to the Birnin Yero Police Division launched an investigation that led to the arrest of Abdullahi Mukailu Kigo and five other suspects believed to have participated in the unlawful killing.

Police authorities disclosed that the arrested suspects have confessed to their roles in the incident and are currently in custody.

The Command added that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in the mob action, assuring that everyone found culpable will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The Police also reiterated their warning against jungle justice, urging members of the public to hand over suspects to security agencies instead of taking the law into their own hands.

The tragic incident has once again highlighted the dangers of mob violence and false accusations, with authorities calling on residents to remain law-abiding and allow law enforcement agencies to carry out proper investigations.
