Ogun Police Arrest Seven Suspects, Recover Stolen Vehicle, Firearms and Loot in Crime Crackdown

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested seven suspected criminals in separate intelligence-led operations across the state, recovering a stolen vehicle, firearms, stolen mobile phones, a laptop and over ₦1 million linked to an alleged travel scam.

The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, saying the suspects were apprehended for offences including armed robbery, “one-chance” robbery, cultism, unlawful possession of firearms and obtaining money under false pretences.

According to the Police, those arrested are Bola Salau, Segun Balogun, Emmanuel Friday, Tunde Abioye, Ankpa James, Tunde Ogunseye and Owodunni Seun. Their arrests followed coordinated operations by officers attached to the Ilaro Area Command and the Ibafo, Mowe, Adatan and Ode-Remo divisions.

Babaseyi said the operations reflect the command’s sustained commitment to intelligence-led policing and crime prevention under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni.

One of the operations led to the interception of a Toyota Venza during a routine stop-and-search exercise along the Oja-Odan/Ilaro Road. A search of the vehicle uncovered its original registration documents hidden beneath the carpet.

Further investigations enabled detectives to trace the rightful owner in Ede, Osun State, who confirmed that the vehicle had been stolen during a violent robbery attack on his residence on June 23, 2026. Police said investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the robbery syndicate.

In another operation, detectives from the Ibafo Division arrested two suspected members of a “one-chance” robbery gang after a female victim reported that she had been dispossessed of her Samsung A16 mobile phone worth ₦295,000 and ₦120,000 in cash.

Acting on intelligence, officers tracked and arrested the suspects at a hotel in Magboro and recovered a Toyota Camry allegedly used during the robbery. The victim reportedly identified the suspects, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing gang members and recover additional stolen property.

The command also arrested Ankpa James over an alleged travel scam after he was accused of collecting ₦1.276 million from a 21-year-old victim with the promise of securing travel arrangements to Luxembourg.

The suspect was apprehended following a distress alert received through the Gateway Shield emergency platform. During interrogation, he allegedly admitted involvement in the fraud, while ₦1.1 million was recovered and returned to the complainant on bond. Police said he would be charged to court after investigations are concluded.

Meanwhile, operatives of the Adatan Division arrested suspected cult member Tunde Ogunseye during a joint security operation. According to the police, the suspect allegedly attempted to attack security operatives with a locally made pistol before he was overpowered.

A subsequent search of his residence led to the recovery of another locally fabricated firearm, bringing the total number of firearms recovered in the operation to two. Investigators also alleged that Ogunseye is a member of the Eiye Confraternity and is involved in the sale of illicit drugs.

In a separate operation, officers attached to the Ode-Remo Division foiled an attempted robbery targeting students in the Itun-Raye area of Ode-Remo. The suspects reportedly fled into a nearby bush after sighting security personnel, abandoning a Dane gun, two expended cartridges, an HP EliteBook laptop, 17 stolen mobile phones, power banks and other personal belongings.

The recovered phones include nine iPhones, seven Samsung Android devices and one Itel handset.

Police later arrested Owodunni Seun near the scene after he allegedly failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for his presence in the area. Preliminary investigations revealed that he had previously been convicted for receiving stolen property and is currently assisting detectives with ongoing investigations.

Commending officers for the successful operations, Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni reiterated the command’s resolve to intensify intelligence-led policing, strengthen inter-agency collaboration and sustain pressure on criminal elements across Ogun State.

He warned individuals involved in criminal activities to desist or face the full weight of the law, while urging residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information that will aid crime prevention and the arrest of offenders.
