Horror in Oyo: Abducted Teacher Beheaded by Bandits as Families Await Rescue of Other Victims

Residents of Ahoro-Esinele community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State have been thrown into grief following the brutal killing of a secondary school teacher, Michael Oyedokun, who was abducted alongside other staff and students during a recent attack on a school in the area.

Global Mirror News gathered that the late Oyedokun, said to be a mathematics teacher at Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele, was reportedly beheaded by suspected bandits after days in captivity. The horrifying incident reportedly came to light after a disturbing video allegedly released by the kidnappers surfaced online on Sunday.

The victim was among several teachers kidnapped when heavily armed gunmen invaded the school on Friday, May 15, 2026. Reports indicated that the attackers also abducted the school principal and some students during the raid, leaving the quiet rural community in fear and uncertainty.

Families of the abducted victims have continued to live in agony as rescue efforts intensify. Residents described Oyedokun as a dedicated teacher who was passionate about educating children in the community despite growing insecurity in the area.

A local resident, who spoke anonymously due to security concerns, said the entire town had been enveloped in sorrow since news of the teacher’s death broke.

“People are terrified. Parents are scared to send their children to school. This is somebody who devoted his life to teaching young people, only to die this way,” the resident lamented.

Global Mirror News learnt that Security Agencies, including Soldiers, Local vigilantes and operatives of the Amotekun Corps, launched rescue operations shortly after the abduction. However, the operation reportedly suffered setbacks after some operatives encountered improvised explosive devices allegedly planted by the kidnappers. Some security personnel were said to have lost their lives, while others sustained injuries and are receiving treatment.

Confirming the development, the Special Adviser on Media to Oyo State Governor, Dr. Suleimon Olanrewaju, described the killing as painful and unfortunate.

According to him, Governor Seyi Makinde has extended condolences to the family of the slain teacher and assured residents that the Government would continue efforts to rescue the remaining captives.

The Governor’s aide also disclosed that several suspects linked to the attack had been arrested, including individuals believed to be informants and logistics suppliers for the kidnappers.

The incident has sparked outrage across Oyo State and beyond, with many Nigerians calling for stronger protection for schools and rural communities increasingly exposed to attacks by criminal groups.

The latest tragedy has further heightened concerns over worsening insecurity in parts of the country, especially attacks targeting schools, teachers and students.
