Nursing Student Beheaded In Imo, Police Launch Manhunt For Killers

The Imo State Police Command has launched a full-scale manhunt for the killers of a nursing student, Wendy Achumba, who was reportedly beheaded in her apartment in Umulogho, Obowo Local Government Area of the State.
Global Mirror News gathered that the victim, said to be a student of the College of Nursing, Umulogho, was gruesomely murdered in her off-campus residence, throwing the institution and the host community into mourning.
Sources in the Area disclosed that neighbours became suspicious after the young woman failed to come out of her room for a long period and did not respond to repeated knocks on her door. The residents were said to have forced the door open, only to discover her lifeless body with her head severed.
The horrifying discovery sparked outrage and panic within the community as students and residents trooped to the scene demanding justice for the slain student.
Further reports indicated that the victim had recently completed her Midwifery programme and was pursuing post-basic nursing studies before the tragic incident cut her life short.
Residents alleged that the room was still locked when the corpse was found, while the victim’s mobile phone could not be traced, raising suspicions surrounding the circumstances of the killing.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, DSP Henry Okoye, said detectives had commenced investigation into the gruesome murder.
According to him, Police operatives, including the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Area, visited the scene immediately after the report was received and evacuated the remains to a morgue for further examination.
Okoye assured the public that the command was determined to apprehend those behind the killing and bring them to justice.
Global Mirror News also gathered that one suspect has reportedly been arrested and is currently assisting investigators as security operatives intensify efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the murder.
