Anthony Joshua Crash: Driver Remanded as Court Details N5m Bail Conditions

Global Mirror News reports that the driver involved in the road crash linked to British heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has been remanded in custody after appearing before a magistrate court in Ogun State, with the court spelling out stringent ₦5 million bail conditions.

The defendant, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, was arraigned before the Sagamu Magistrate Court over his alleged role in the fatal accident that occurred along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in late December 2025.

The crash involved a Lexus SUV conveying Joshua and members of his entourage and a stationary truck reportedly parked along the highway.

According to proceedings monitored by Global Mirror News, the defendant was charged on four counts bordering on dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care and attention, and driving without a valid Driver’s licence.

The prosecution told the court that the alleged offences contravened provisions of Nigeria’s traffic and criminal laws.

Presiding Chief Magistrate Olufunmilayo Somefun granted bail in the sum of ₦5 million, with two responsible sureties.

The court directed that each surety must be gainfully employed, present verifiable residential addresses, and provide valid means of identification.

One of the sureties, the court added, must be a landowner within the court’s jurisdiction, while relevant documents must be deposited with the court registrar for verification.

Until all bail conditions are fully perfected, the magistrate ordered that the defendant be remanded at a correctional facility.

The case was adjourned to later in January 2026 for further hearing and a possible review of bail compliance.

The accident, which occurred just days before the New Year, drew widespread attention across Nigeria and the International Sporting Community.

Authorities have also warned motorists against speeding and night driving, noting that investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing.

Global Mirror News gathered that law enforcement agencies have assured the public that the case will be diligently prosecuted, stressing that justice will be pursued without fear or favour as the court process continues.
