Woman Remanded for Pouring Hot Oil on Man in Ekiti

An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate Court has ordered the remand of a 27-year-old woman, Ajirotutu Bosede, over allegations that she poured hot oil on a man, causing him severe burns.

The incident reportedly occurred on October 3, 2025, at Matthew Street, Odo-Ado area of Ado-Ekiti, where Bosede allegedly attacked one Emmanuel Ogunleye, leaving him with serious injuries.

During the court proceedings, Police Prosecutor Inspector Sadiq Adeniyi told the court that the act was capable of causing a breach of public peace and constituted grievous bodily harm under the law. The prosecutor urged the court to deny bail, arguing that the offense was grave and the victim was still receiving medical attention.

However, Bosede’s counsel, Barrister Adedayo Awe, pleaded with the court to admit his client to bail, stressing that the accused was entitled to the presumption of innocence until proven guilty.

In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun ordered that the accused be remanded at the Ado-Ekiti Correctional Centre pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The case was adjourned until November 21, 2025, for further hearing.

The case has drawn public attention across Ekiti State, sparking discussions on rising cases of violent altercations and the need for stronger community intervention in domestic disputes.
