Woman Arrested for Selling Two-Month-Old Baby for N1.5 Million

Delta State Police Command operatives have arrested a woman, Rita Ughale, from Kokori Community in Ethiope East Local Government Area, for allegedly selling her two-month-old baby boy to a couple for ₦1,500,000.

The buyers, Osas Omijie (39) and Judith Omijie (30), were also taken into custody, while the infant was safely rescued.

According to the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the case began on December 15, 2025, when Ughale reported at the Ekpan Police Division that her baby had been kidnapped during a tricycle robbery at about 6:40 pm.

“Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Labe Joseph, immediately mobilised operatives and coordinated a swift search and rescue operation,” SP Edafe said.

“However, inconsistencies in the complainant’s story prompted further interrogation, leading her to admit that she had sold her child to Osas and Judith Omijie.”

The PPRO added that all three suspects remain in Police custody while investigations continue to identify any additional accomplices involved in the crime.

“The infant has been successfully rescued and is safe,” SP Edafe confirmed. “Efforts are being intensified to bring any other persons involved to justice.”
