Winter Olympic Village Condom Stock Vanishes in 3 Days Amid Athlete Demand

The Winter Olympic Village in Italy has reportedly run out of condoms just three days after the start of the 2026 Games, after athletes exhausted the initial stock of 10,000, Global Mirror News can confirm.
“The supplies ran out in just three days,” an anonymous athlete told La Stampa. “They promised us more will arrive, but who knows when.”
Providing free condoms to athletes has been a long-standing public health initiative aimed at promoting safe sex during the Games. However, this year’s supply reportedly fell short, depleting within 72 hours of distribution.
An athlete familiar with the distribution pointed out the difference from past Games. “In Paris, athletes received 300,000 condoms—two per day each—but these Winter Games provided far fewer. Not even 10,000 were available,” they said, according to La Stampa.
Lombardy Governor Attilio Fontana addressed the shortage, insisting that the provision of condoms should not be a source of embarrassment.
“Yes, we provide free condoms to athletes in the Olympic Village,” Fontana wrote on social media. “It’s an established Olympic practice since Seoul 1988, designed to raise awareness of sexually transmitted disease prevention—a topic that should not cause shame.”
Fontana also shared an Instagram post by Spanish figure skater Olivia Smart, showing condoms stamped with the yellow Lombardy Region logo. “I found them,” Smart said in the viral clip. “They have everything you need.”
The 2026 Winter Olympics feature approximately 2,900 athletes from 92 National committees competing in 116 events across 16 disciplines, with a record 47% female participation—marking the most gender-balanced Winter Games in history.
Global Mirror News will continue to monitor the situation as organizers work to replenish supplies.
