Why Hon. Dr. Babatunde Tella Deserves a Second Term in Office

Hon. Dr. Babatunde Tella, the lawmaker representing Abeokuta North State Constituency in the Ogun State House of Assembly, has distinguished himself as a diligent, visionary, and people-focused legislator.

Since assuming office on June 20, 2023, he has consistently demonstrated that effective representation is built on a blend of sound lawmaking, responsive leadership, and tangible grassroots impact.

Widely regarded as one of the most proactive lawmakers in Ogun State, Hon. Tella’s approach to governance is anchored in consistency, resilience, and a deep understanding of the needs of his constituents.

As Deputy Chief Whip of the Ogun State House of Assembly, he has played a strategic role in strengthening legislative coordination, discipline, and institutional efficiency.

His legislative record speaks volumes. Hon. Tella has sponsored and co-sponsored several bills cutting across governance reform, economic development, environmental protection, education, and social welfare.

Notable among his sponsored legislations are the Ogun State Rural and Semi-Urban Integration and Development Bill and the Ogun State Orders of Precedence Bill, both designed to enhance administrative clarity and governance efficiency. He also sponsored the Scavengers and Waste Dealers Law, a critical intervention aimed at improving environmental sustainability and public safety.

His commitment to food security and rural economic empowerment is reflected in the Agricultural Advancement and Sustainability Bill, while the Bill for the Establishment of the Ogun State Boundary Commission underscores his foresight in addressing territorial clarity and conflict prevention.

Beyond bill sponsorship, Hon. Tella has been an active co-sponsor of key legislations, including the Appropriation Laws from 2023 to 2025, ensuring fiscal discipline and sustained funding for development projects. His contributions to the Ogun State Consumer Protection Law and the Commercial Vehicles Law further highlight his dedication to citizen welfare and public order.

Through well-thought-out motions, he has drawn legislative attention to critical areas such as road safety, public health, cultural preservation, and inclusive governance. His motion to protect the Adire/Kampala industry from foreign domination stands as a bold defense of indigenous enterprise and cultural identity.

He also championed the inclusion of sign language interpreters at state programmes, reinforcing his commitment to inclusivity and the rights of persons with hearing impairments.

In the health sector, Hon. Tella supported the establishment of a Health Trust Fund for the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, strengthening healthcare financing and service delivery.

He has also played an active role in reviewing Ogun State’s security architecture, contributing to improved safety and crime-prevention strategies. His involvement in the lifting of the NURTW suspension helped restore order while protecting the livelihoods of transport workers.

His advocacy extended to securing toll exemptions for rural teachers and health workers, easing transportation challenges and encouraging service delivery in underserved areas.

He also supported indigenous participation in major economic processes, including the Lafarge Cement Plc divestment, and contributed to policies addressing trailer-related accidents and transport union harmonization for safer roads.

Education has not been left out. Hon. Tella has consistently advocated for the revival of the State Polytechnic, Ipokia, reaffirming his belief in accessible and quality education as a driver of development.

On infrastructure, his impact is visible across Abeokuta North. He facilitated the installation of solar-powered streetlights in communities such as Kurere, Koosa, Isaga-Orile, Sangote, Kogo, Olosun, Ibara-Orile, and Elega, enhancing security and boosting nighttime economic activities.

He has also supported key road construction and rehabilitation projects, including Isaga-Orile Road, Oke-Eri Road, and Bilikisu-Sugbo Road.

Through his water intervention programme, over 16 boreholes have been delivered across the constituency, restoring access to clean and safe water in communities like Idi-Ori, Ikija, Kurere, Oyan Dam, Oke-Ata, Ilewo-Orile, Araromi-Gaa, Ijale-Papa, and several housing estates.

Hon. Tella has empowered more than 350 constituents through the distribution of skills tools, educational materials, agricultural inputs, and financial support.

He has also facilitated employment opportunities within TRACE, Amotekun Corps, and the Ogun State Civil Service, expanding livelihood prospects for youths and strengthening community stability.

With an impressive record of impactful legislation, infrastructure delivery, human capital development, and unwavering grassroots engagement, Hon. Dr. Babatunde Tella has clearly proven his capacity to deliver purposeful representation.

His performance in office justifies the confidence of his constituents and makes a compelling case for a second term to consolidate these gains and do even more for Abeokuta North.
