“We Just Stepped Out… Then Chaos”: Ozoro Women Recount Ordeal as Police Move Against Festival Abuse

Fear and outrage have gripped residents of Ozoro in Delta State after disturbing scenes from a local festival turned into what victims describe as a day of chaos and humiliation for several women.

Reacting to the viral videos, the Delta State Police Command spokesperson, Bright Edafe, condemned the incident in strong terms, calling it “alarming, disgusting, and embarrassing.” He emphasized that no tradition or cultural observance should come at the expense of citizens’ fundamental rights.

According to him, the Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, has ordered an immediate investigation into the incident, assuring the public that perpetrators will be tracked down and brought to justice.

Witness accounts obtained by Global Mirror News suggest that the festival, reportedly held annually in March, includes a controversial practice where women are expected to remain indoors. Those who defy the restriction allegedly become targets of harassment by some male participants.
