Wanted Suspect from Benin Nabbed in Ogun

In a significant cross-border law enforcement operation, the Ogun State Police Command announced that it arrested Abdoulaye Gomina, a criminal wanted in the Republic of Benin, in connection with a series of armed robberies and smuggling operations across the Nigeria–Benin frontier.
The arrest reportedly took place on September 27, 2025 in the border community of Imeko-Afon, following a tip from informants about suspicious movement of a Foreign National between border towns.
The Police say Gomina had established a hideout near a local farm while coordinating illicit activities.
During the raid, officers from the Ogun State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), supported by Local intelligence units, seized multiple firearms, ammunition, and foreign currencies believed to be proceeds from cross-border theft and smuggling.
Documents recovered suggest Gomina was a leader of a syndicate that facilitated illegal arms and goods trafficking between Benin and Nigeria.
According to Ogun State Police Spokesperson Omolola Odutola, the operation was the result of coordinated intelligence sharing between Nigerian security agencies and counterparts in Benin.
Odutola described the arrest as a “major victory” in curbing crimes that exploit Nigeria’s porous borders.
She added that Gomina is already in custody at the State CID headquarters in Abeokuta, and would be interrogated to uncover the full extent of his network.
The Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, has pledged that the investigation will extend until all operatives within the syndicate are apprehended.
Traditional rulers and community leaders along border areas have also been urged to be vigilant, monitor movement in their domains, and report unusual activities to security agencies.
As Nigeria steps up efforts to stamp out International criminal networks operating on its frontiers, the arrest of an accused Benin National within Ogun State is seen as a bold statement against cross-border crimes.
