Viral TikTok Crash Lands Influencer Peller in FRSC Prosecution Net

Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced plans to prosecute popular TikTok content creator Hamzat Habeeb, widely known as Peller, following a road traffic crash that occurred while he was livestreaming on social media.
The incident, which quickly went viral online, reportedly occurred along the Lekki–Epe Expressway in Lagos. Peller was seen driving while engaging his followers during a live TikTok session moments before the crash, raising public concern over the dangers of distracted driving and the increasing trend of risky content creation on public roads.
Reacting to the development, the FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, described the act as reckless and a clear violation of established traffic regulations.
He directed the Lagos State Sector Commander to commence legal action against the influencer, stressing that livestreaming while driving poses serious risks to the driver, passengers and other road users.
Mohammed warned that social media fame does not confer immunity from the law, noting that public highways must not be turned into stages for online engagement.
He added that the Corps would apply the full weight of the law against anyone found endangering lives through dangerous driving practices, regardless of status or popularity.
The FRSC boss also called on entertainers, influencers and professional bodies to promote responsible behaviour, urging content creators to use their platforms to advocate road safety rather than actions that could lead to fatal consequences. He reiterated that distracted driving remains a major contributor to road traffic crashes across Nigeria.
The crash has continued to spark widespread reactions on social media, with mixed responses ranging from sympathy for the influencer to criticism of his actions and calls for stricter enforcement of traffic laws.
Authorities say the planned prosecution is intended to serve as a deterrent and reinforce the message that safety on Nigerian roads must take precedence over online visibility.
