UNIZIK Bans ‘Signing Off’ Celebrations
The Management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (UNIZIK), has indefinitely banned final-year students from participating in examination orchestration “signing off” ceremonies on campus. This decision, announced in a Press Release signed by Registrar Dr. Chinenye Okeke on Tuesday, 19th August, 2025 takes immediate effect.
According to the University Management, the ban is in response to recurring incidents of chaos, violence, and disruption associated with these events. The presence of unauthorized individuals on campus also poses a threat to the safety and security of students, staff, and the broader University Community. Dr. Okeke cited the need to maintain order, protect life, and safeguard property as the motivation behind the directive.
Any student found involved in orchestration (“signing off”) or related activities risks severe disciplinary measures, including rustication. Outsiders entering the University premises to support such activities may face arrest and prosecution for disorderly conduct and breach of peace. The University Management is determined to enforce this ban and ensure a safe and secure environment for all.
The University Management remains committed to providing a conducive academic environment, free from disruptions and threats to safety. Dr. Okeke urged students to focus on their academic responsibilities and report any instances of misconduct or threats to safety to the appropriate authorities. “We urge all students to prioritize their academic pursuits and avoid activities that may compromise their safety and security,” the statement added.
