Two Killed, Three Critically Injured in Lagos Mixer Truck Collision

Two people lost their lives while three others sustained critical injuries following a multiple-vehicle collision involving a Dangote Silo Mixer Truck at Iyana Meiran, Lagos State.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident in a statement issued by its Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq.
According to LASTMA, the accident occurred along Meiran Road, close to a Primary Health Centre, when the mixer truck, reportedly travelling at high speed, suffered brake failure and rammed into a commercial minibus and four tricycles.
The affected vehicles were identified as a commercial minibus with registration number EPP 541 YF and four tricycles bearing registration numbers KTU 360 QN, LND 444 QL, LSR 444 QN, and EKY 122 QP.
The impact left several passengers trapped inside the mangled vehicles.
“Preliminary security findings revealed that the tragic occurrence was triggered by a Dangote Silo Mixer Truck which, while being operated at an inordinately high speed, suffered a sudden brake failure and consequently lost control,” the statement said.
LASTMA officials, with the assistance of passersby, rescued three critically injured victims, who were immediately taken to Mobonke Hospital on Meiran Road for emergency treatment.
The bodies of the deceased were handed over to the Nigeria Police for further procedures.
Reacting to the incident, the General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed condolences to the families of the victims and reiterated the need for strict compliance with traffic regulations.
“Mechanical negligence and excessive speeding remain persistent and avoidable causes of fatal road crashes,” he warned.
