Two Drivers Killed, Four Injured in Separate Ogun Auto Crashes
Tragedy struck over the weekend in Ogun State as two separate road accidents claimed the lives of two drivers and left four others injured in Ijebu-Ode and Sagamu respectively.
The first fatal crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Trailer Park section of the Sagamu–Benin Expressway, Ijebu-Ode, when a passenger bus rammed into a container-laden truck.
According to information confirmed by the spokesperson of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Mr. Babatunde Akinbiyi, the ill-fated bus was reportedly on high speed when it lost control and collided with the moving truck from the rear.
“The white bus with registration number DGB 650 XA rammed into a containerised truck, marked KTU 357 XX, while the truck was navigating the expressway from the Trailer Park,” Akinbiyi explained.
He added that five people were involved in the crash — two sustained injuries, while the bus driver lost his life on the spot. TRACE operatives and officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) later evacuated the remains of the deceased to the Ijebu-Ode General Hospital mortuary.
In a separate incident on Sunday morning, another crash occurred at the Arigbabu Area along the Sagamu–Ikorodu Expressway, claiming the life of yet another driver.
Akinbiyi disclosed that the lone accident involved an unregistered mini truck whose driver reportedly fell asleep at the wheel before veering off the road and crashing into a culvert.
“Three persons were in the vehicle; two were injured, while the driver died instantly. His body was taken away by his family before our officials arrived,” he said.
He further noted that TRACE and FRSC officers promptly managed the traffic gridlock that followed the accident.
Meanwhile, the Acting TRACE Corps Commander, Mr. Elias Omonayajo, has commiserated with the bereaved families, urging motorists to shun speeding, remain alert, and embrace defensive driving techniques to avoid preventable tragedies.
