Truth Behind the Laughter: Wale Adenuga Counters ‘Broke’ Claims by Papa Ajasco Actor

Veteran filmmaker Wale Adenuga has firmly dismissed claims that Actor Abiodun Ayoyinka, widely known for his iconic role as Papa Ajasco, is financially stranded, describing the narrative as misleading and lacking full context.
Global Mirror News gathered that the controversy erupted after Ayoyinka publicly hinted at financial hardship, sparking widespread reactions and concern among fans of the long-running comedy series Papa Ajasco and Company.
Responding in a detailed statement, Adenuga clarified that there has been no breakdown in their professional relationship and rejected insinuations that the actor had been neglected by his production company.
According to the media executive, Ayoyinka’s recent viral content appears more like a strategic move to leverage public sympathy and expand his social media reach rather than a reflection of his actual financial standing.
Adenuga further emphasized that the actor, whom he described as talented and closely aligned with the original character concept created in 1976, had enjoyed consistent support over the years.
Providing insight into Ayoyinka’s background, he noted that the actor spent over three decades in civil service with the Lagos State Government, where he built a reputable career before retirement.
This, he argued, raises questions about the source of the current financial distress being portrayed publicly.
On welfare and benefits, Adenuga revealed that Ayoyinka had received significant support, including access to multiple vehicles over time and ownership of a residence in Ogun State. He added that such provisions contradict the narrative of abandonment being circulated.
Addressing concerns about restrictions, Adenuga explained that while the “Papa Ajasco” brand remains protected, actors are not barred from pursuing other opportunities, including advertisements and external roles, provided proper approvals are obtained.
Global Mirror News also learned that cast members of the show typically spend only a few weeks annually on set, leaving ample time for personal ventures and additional income streams.
Several other actors from the series, including Pa James and Boy Alinco, reportedly continue to feature in other productions without limitations.
Adenuga maintained that the company adheres strictly to industry standards in its remuneration structure and meets all financial obligations as required, insisting that claims of exploitation or neglect are unfounded.
He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to transparency, professionalism, and preserving the legacy of a production that has entertained millions of Nigerians for decades, while appreciating public concern over the matter.
