Trapped in Darkness: Kano Lawyer Dies Inside Abuja Hotel Elevator

A Kano-based lawyer, Barrister Abdulsalam Ginsau, has reportedly died after becoming trapped inside an elevator at a hotel in Abuja.
Global Mirror News gathered that the tragic incident occurred after the hotel lift suddenly stopped while Ginsau was inside. He was said to have remained trapped for several minutes without rescue, eventually suffocating before help arrived.
Although the exact circumstances surrounding the incident are still unclear, early reactions suggest the elevator may have malfunctioned due to a power outage or a technical fault.
The death has sparked outrage and concern across social media, with many Nigerians blaming poor maintenance culture and unreliable electricity supply in some public facilities.
Several users questioned why there were no emergency systems in place to quickly rescue a trapped guest.
Former senator and human rights activist Shehu Sani confirmed the incident in a post on X, describing it as “very pathetic.”
According to him, Ginsau was trapped inside the hotel lift and died from suffocation before he could be rescued.
Sani wrote that the tragedy may have been caused by a sudden interruption in power supply, a faulty lift, or simply “a tragedy of fate.” He prayed for the deceased’s soul to rest in peace.
The incident has renewed calls for stricter safety checks in hotels and public buildings, especially in the Federal Capital Territory, where elevators are widely used in high-rise facilities.
Many Nigerians are now urging authorities to investigate the hotel involved and ensure that all lifts are fitted with functioning emergency alarms, backup power systems and rapid response measures.
