Train Slams into Commercial Bus in Oshodi, No Lives Lost

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed that no injuries or fatalities were recorded after a train collided with a commercial bus in the Oshodi area of Lagos on Monday night.

In a preliminary report dated December 23, 2025, and signed by the Permanent Secretary of the agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, LASEMA said the incident occurred around the Arena area of Oshodi and involved a train and a white Toyota Hiace bus.

According to the Agency, distress alerts were received at about 7:53pm through its 767/112 toll-free emergency lines, prompting the immediate activation of the state’s emergency response plan from its Cappa Base in Oshodi.

Emergency responders were thereafter deployed to the scene.

LASEMA stated that its response team arrived at the incident location by 8:11pm, where it was discovered that a train had collided with a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number AGL-671-XR.

Giving details of how the accident occurred, the agency said preliminary investigations revealed that reckless driving on the part of the bus driver led to the crash.

According to the report, the driver, while driving outside the Arena shopping complex in Oshodi, drove into the path of an oncoming train, leaving the bus stuck on the railway tracks before it was hit.

Despite the severity of the collision, LASEMA noted that no casualty or loss of life was recorded.
“Fortunately, no casualty nor mortality was recorded as a result of the incident,” the Agency said.

However, the impact caused significant damage to the bus.
“The incident resulted in significant damage to the white Toyota Hi-Ace bus, due to the magnitude of the crash,” the statement added.

LASEMA further explained that its response team carried out a thorough risk assessment at the scene and implemented necessary safety and control measures to prevent any secondary incidents.

“LASEMA Response Team conducted appropriate risk assessment of the incident scene and activated necessary safety and control measures to curtail any secondary incident,” the agency stated.

The Agency also confirmed that train operations were temporarily halted to allow for the safe evacuation of the damaged bus from the tracks.

“Agency’s Response Team passed urgent information to the railway station to stop train operations pending the evacuation of the accidental bus,” it said.

According to the report, the Toyota Hiace bus has since been successfully removed from the railway tracks and towed to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) yard in Oshodi.

“The white Toyota Hi-Ace bus involved in the accident has been extracted from the railway tracks. The recovered accidental bus has been towed to LASTMA yard in Oshodi,” LASEMA confirmed.

The Agency added that the rail line has been cleared and normal train operations restored.

“The rail track has been set free and normal activities have been restored. Recovery operation has been successfully concluded,” the statement said.

The response operation involved officials of LASEMA from the Cappa Base in Oshodi, as well as officers of LASTMA, who worked together to ensure the safe and timely conclusion of the rescue and recovery exercise.
