Tragedy on Damaturu–Maiduguri Highway Claims Five Family Members in Yobe
A devastating road accident along the Damaturu–Maiduguri highway in Yobe State has claimed the lives of five members of the same family, leaving others injured.
The tragic incident, which occurred on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, involved residents of Potiskum Local Government Area identified as Hajjagana Dahiru Zayi, Ibrahim Dahiru Zayi, Muhammad Dahiru Zayi, Hauwa Dahiru Zayi, and another yet-to-be-named family member.
Sources told Global Mirror News that the victims were traveling together when the fatal crash occurred, resulting in immediate loss of lives and injuries to other occupants.
A relative of the victims, Dahiru Musa Talba, who spoke to Global Mirror News via a Facebook post, confirmed that three additional family members sustained varying degrees of injuries.
He added that the injured were rushed to the General Hospital in Damaturu, where they are currently receiving treatment.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Yobe State Police Command, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, told Global Mirror News that five persons were pronounced dead, while others survived with injuries.
He further disclosed that investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the accident.
The heartbreaking incident has plunged the affected family and community into mourning, amid growing concerns over road safety along the busy Damaturu–Maiduguri highway.
