Tinubu Scraps National Broadcast, to Address Nigerians from N’Assembly

President Bola Tinubu has cancelled his scheduled nationwide broadcast to commemorate Nigeria’s 26th Democracy Day anniversary. According to a statement by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Segun Imohiosen, the cancellation is due to the President’s scheduled attendance at a joint session of the National Assembly on Thursday, June 12, 2025.

Instead, President Tinubu will deliver his Democracy Day address directly from the National Assembly chambers. Other scheduled activities to mark the day will proceed as planned, including a public lecture on “Consolidating on the Gains of Nigeria’s Democracy: Necessity of Enduring Reforms” at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja.

Earlier, a notice was sent to journalists cancelling the traditional military parade initially scheduled to mark the celebration. No official reason was given for the cancellation. The revised schedule of events includes the President’s attendance at the National Assembly Joint Session at 12 noon and the public lecture at 4 pm, which will be covered exclusively by accredited State House correspondents.

The notice was signed by Abdulhakeem Adeoye on behalf of the Director, Information & Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. The development has sparked curiosity among Nigerians, who are eagerly awaiting the President’s address on this significant day in the country’s democratic history.
