Tinubu Deploys 65 Envoys, Assigns Fani-Kayode to Germany, Omokri to Mexico

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the posting of 65 Ambassadors-designate and high Commissioners to various Countries and International Organisations, including the United Nations, in a move aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic representation abroad.
Global Mirror News gathered that the list comprises 34 non-career Ambassadors and 31 Career Diplomats who have been assigned to different diplomatic missions across the world.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Among the prominent political figures on the list, former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode has been posted to Germany, while Presidential aide Reno Omokri will serve as Nigeria’s envoy to Mexico.
Former Katsina State Governor and retired Military Officer Abdulrahman Dambazau has been designated as Nigeria’s Ambassador to China, while businessman and Senator Jimoh Ibrahim will serve as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

Former Presidential aide Lateef Kayode Are has been assigned to the United States, while Senator Grace Bent will serve in Togo. Also on the list is former Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, who has been posted to Greece.
In another key appointment, Aminu Dalhatu has been named Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, while former Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency Ayodele Oke will serve in France.

Global Mirror News further reports that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already secured agrément—the formal diplomatic approval—from the United Kingdom for High Commissioner-designate Aminu Dalhatu, while France has granted approval for Ayodele Oke.
The Ministry has also forwarded the nominations of the remaining envoys to their respective host countries for similar approval in line with diplomatic protocol.
President Tinubu has directed the Ministry to immediately organise an induction programme for the ambassadors-designate and high commissioners before they assume duty.
The Senate had earlier confirmed the 65 nominees in December 2025 after screening them through its Committee on Foreign Affairs.
Nigeria maintains diplomatic missions in over 100 Countries, including embassies, high commissions and consulates responsible for managing bilateral and multilateral engagements.
The latest deployment marks the first major ambassadorial posting since 2017, during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, when several Nigerian diplomatic missions operated without substantive ambassadors for years.
