Tinubu Confers National Honours on Soyinka, Kudirat Abola, Ken Saro-Wiwa, others

President Bola Tinubu has announced National Honours for dozens of Nigerians as part of events marking Democracy Day. The announcement was made during his State of the Nation address at the National Assembly on Thursday.

Notable recipients include Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka, who has been conferred the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), and the late Kudirat Abiola, who received a posthumous Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) title. Other notable honorees include Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, Ken Saro-Wiwa, and other members of the Ogoni Nine, who were honoured posthumously.

The President also granted them a Presidential pardon, stating, “I shall also be exercising my powers under the prerogative of mercy to grant these National Heroes a full pardon, together with others whose names shall be announced later in conjunction with the National Council of State.”
