Residents of Wailo town in Ganjuwa Local Government Area of Bauchi State have been left in shock after a 17-year-old boy, Teen, identified as Auwalu Muhammad, was arrested for allegedly removing both eyes of his younger sister for a suspected money ritual.
According to a statement issued by the Bauchi State Police Command, the disturbing incident occurred on October 17, when Auwalu reportedly lured his sister, Rukayya Muhammad, into a nearby bush and carried out the heinous act.
Police investigations revealed that Rukayya, who shared the same parents with the suspect, lost her eyes permanently as a result of the attack.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Wakil, confirmed the arrest, describing the act as “barbaric and heartbreaking.”
He said the suspect confessed to committing the crime after being influenced by the belief that sacrificing his sister’s eyes would bring him wealth.
Wakil added that the father of the victim reported the case, leading to the immediate arrest of the suspect.
“The victim was found with severe injuries and was rushed to the hospital where medical professionals confirmed the loss of her sight,” he said.
The command assured that the suspect would face the full wrath of the law upon the completion of investigations, reiterating its commitment to curbing ritual-related crimes and ensuring justice for victims.
This horrifying incident has sparked outrage and deep sorrow among residents of the Wailo community.
Locals described the act as “unimaginable” and called for stricter penalties for anyone involved in ritual practices.
A community leader, Mallam Yusuf Adamu, condemned the act, saying it reflected the moral decay caused by greed and superstition.

Many residents also appealed to the Government, Religious institutions, and schools to intensify public education on the dangers of ritual beliefs and to promote moral values among young people.
