Sowore and Showunmi Lock Horns Over Tinubu Visit

A heated exchange has erupted between Omoyele Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters, and Segun Showunmi, former spokesperson of the Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign, over Showunmi’s recent visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Sowore accused Showunmi of duplicity and political inconsistency, describing him as a “double speaker” who once sought opposition unity against Tinubu, only to later pay homage to the President.
In a Facebook post, Sowore claimed Showunmi had reached out to him after the 2023 presidential election, expressing frustration with Tinubu’s regime and proposing a coalition of progressive forces to resist it.
Showunmi responded sharply, questioning the integrity and direction of the coalition Sowore mentioned. He maintained that his interaction with Tinubu was based on strategic national dialogue and mutual respect, not betrayal. Showunmi asked, “Shall I not greet our brother/father just because he is President?” adding that the time spent with Tinubu was deployed on serious issues.
Showunmi had shared photos from his Sallah Day 3 meeting with President Tinubu, describing the encounter as “engaging and nostalgic.” The exchange between Sowore and Showunmi highlights the complex web of alliances and rivalries in Nigerian politics.
