Spoons, Toothbrushes, Pens Removed from Man’s Stomach

Doctors in Northern India have carried out a rare and life-saving operation on a 40-year-old man after discovering dozens of foreign objects, includes Spoons, toothbrush and pens inside his stomach.
The patient, admitted to Devnandani Hospital in Hapur on September 17, was brought in by relatives after suffering severe abdominal pain, vomiting, and weakness.
Diagnostic tests, including ultrasound, X-ray, and CT scans, revealed a shocking accumulation of metal and plastic items in his digestive system.
A team of surgeons led by Dr. Shyam Kumar performed a five-hour surgery, during which they removed 28 broken spoons, 19 toothbrushes, and two pens. Many of the objects had splintered into pieces before ingestion.
Speaking after the operation, Dr. Kumar described the discovery as “astonishing,” noting that it was unusual to find so many foreign bodies in a single patient.
Hospital officials revealed that the man had a history of drug addiction and had recently stayed at a de-addiction centre in Ghaziabad.
According to reports, he began swallowing everyday objects in frustration while undergoing treatment.
In a confession to Doctors, the patient admitted that he would secretly collect spoons from the centre, take them to the bathroom, and swallow them.
Medical experts suspect he may be suffering from pica, a psychological disorder that compels individuals to consume non-edible items.
Following the operation, the man’s condition improved steadily, and he was discharged from the hospital on September 23.
