Southern Governors Storm Ogun for Crucial Regional Talks Today

Southern Nigeria’s Political and Traditional leadership is converging on Iperu, Ogun State, today (Wednesday) as the Southern Governors’ Forum (SGF) holds a decisive meeting aimed at strengthening regional cooperation and addressing pressing National concerns.

The gathering, convened by Ogun State Governor and Chairman of the Forum, Prince Dapo Abiodun, will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the Governor’s Residence in Iperu. According to a statement issued by the Governor, the session will focus on consolidating the region’s shared developmental agenda and harmonising positions on issues affecting Southern States.

In a move designed to deepen synergy between governance and traditional institutions, the Forum will at 1:00 p.m. host a joint engagement with the Southern Traditional Rulers Council. The meeting is expected to provide a platform for both groups to jointly consider matters of regional importance and reinforce collaborative leadership.

Governor Abiodun, in a post on X, revealed that he had already welcomed some of the distinguished attendees, including respected traditional rulers and regional leaders. Their early visits, he noted, created an avenue to strengthen ongoing engagements and align expectations for the day’s deliberations.

“As we prepare to host the Southern Governors’ Forum meeting today, we were pleased to receive some of the distinguished attendees, particularly traditional rulers and respected leaders from across the southern region,” Abiodun wrote.

“Their visit offered us the opportunity to deepen ongoing engagements and align our shared expectations ahead of the gathering. We value the presence of our royal fathers and regional leaders, whose wisdom and guidance continue to enrich our processes.”

He further stressed Ogun’s commitment to creating an environment that encourages honest dialogue and robust collaboration.

“As host, we remain committed to creating an atmosphere that encourages honest dialogue and fosters stronger collaboration among all stakeholders as we work together for the peace, stability, and development of our region and country by extension,” he added.

The meeting is expected to shape renewed commitments and strategic positions that will guide the region’s collective approach to governance and development.
