Sophia Momodu Clarifies Status With Davido, Calls for Respect for His Marriage
Sophia Momodu, a Nigerian entrepreneur and mother of Afrobeats superstar Davido’s first child, has publicly clarified that she is not married to the award-winning singer, urging fans and content creators to respect his current marriage and stop misrepresenting her status.
Momodu made the clarification following a recent public encounter in which a content creator referred to her as “Davido’s wife.”
Reacting to the incident in a video shared on social media, she described the label as inaccurate and inappropriate, stressing that it does not reflect the reality of her relationship with the global music star.
According to her, her relationship with Davido ended several years ago and both parties have since moved on.
She emphasised that the singer is now married and has a family, adding that continued references to her as his wife are unfair and disrespectful to all involved.
“I am not Davido’s wife,” Momodu stated, appealing to the public to respect boundaries and avoid sustaining narratives rooted in the past.
She noted that such misrepresentations not only affect her personally but also undermine the dignity of Davido’s present family.
Davido, born David Adeleke, is one of Africa’s most influential music exports, with a massive global following that often extends interest beyond his career into his private life.
He is currently married to Chioma Rowland, while co-parenting his first daughter with Momodu.
Momodu’s statement has sparked wide reactions across social media, with many users supporting her call for clarity, privacy and respect.
Observers say the episode highlights the challenges faced by individuals connected to high-profile celebrities, particularly when past relationships continue to shape public perception long after they have ended.
Her appeal, she said, is simple: accurate representation, mutual respect and the freedom for everyone involved to live their lives without unnecessary public speculation.
