Schoolchildren Among Four Killed in Ogun Road Accident

A devastating road accident occurred on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Sowo Village along the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway in Ogun State, claiming the lives of four people, including schoolchildren. The crash happened around 3 pm when a vehicle rammed into the pupils while they were walking by the roadside.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident triggered outrage in the Area, with angry youths attempting to lynch the driver. However, security operatives quickly intervened, rescuing the driver and restoring order. “The children were just walking by the roadside when the vehicle hit them,” an eyewitness said. “It’s a very sad scene.”
Babatunde Akinbiyi, spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), confirmed the incident in a telephone conversation with our correspondent. “A tragic accident occurred at Sowo Village, claiming four lives, including school children,” he said. “The road has been blocked, and Police have been summoned to the scene. Efforts are underway to calm the situation and restore order.”
Akinbiyi further stated that the situation was brought under control with the intervention of sister security Agencies, including the Police and the Nigerian Army. “The road has been reopened, thanks to the efforts of TRACE, the Police, and the Nigerian Army. Traffic is gradually flowing again, easing congestion,” he added.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available. The incident highlights the need for increased vigilance and safety measures on Nigerian roads.
