Scavenger Arraigned in Akure Over Alleged N1.5m Cable Theft

A 35-year-old scavenger, Suleiman Adams, has been arraigned before an Akure Chief Magistrate’s Court over the alleged theft of cable wires and electrical equipment valued at N1.5 million.
Global Mirror News learnt that the defendant was brought before the court on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.
According to the prosecution, Adams and another suspect still at large allegedly conspired to commit the offence on March 10, 2026, at about 1:50 p.m. at Bolcent Oil and Gas Filling Station.
Global Mirror News further gathered that the defendant allegedly stole cable wires and other electrical materials worth N1.5 million belonging to Gbenga Bajulaye.
The incident reportedly occurred at Shasha Market along the Akure-Owo Express Road within the Akure Magisterial District.
The prosecutor, Nelson Akintimehin, told the court that the offences contravene Sections 516 and 390(4)(a) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
Global Mirror News reports that the prosecutor urged the court to adjourn the matter to enable the prosecution to assemble witnesses for trial.
The defendant, who was not represented by counsel, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Sunday Adedapo granted the defendant bail in the sum of N750,000 with one surety in like sum.
The court ordered that the surety must provide evidence of tax payment for the current year and submit two passport photographs. The magistrate also directed that the surety’s residence be verified by court officials.
Global Mirror News further reports that the defendant was remanded at Olokuta Correctional Facility pending the perfection of his bail conditions.
The case was adjourned till April 11, 2026, for hearing.
