Robot Dogs to Bolster Security at 2026 World Cup in Mexico

Global Mirror News has gathered that Mexican Security Agencies are preparing to deploy Robot Dogs as part of enhanced policing and crowd-control measures for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The four-legged robotic units are designed to enter high-risk or hard-to-access areas and transmit live video footage to security forces, allowing Officers to assess threats remotely before moving in.

According to Global Mirror News findings, the technology is aimed at reducing direct exposure of police officers to danger during the tournament.

The 2026 World Cup, scheduled for June 11 to July 19, will be jointly hosted by Mexico, the United States and Canada. Monterrey is among the Mexican host cities and is expected to attract thousands of local and international football fans.

Global Mirror News learned that the city council of Guadalupe, within the Monterrey metropolitan area, acquired the animal-like robots at a cost of 2.5 million pesos (approximately S$183,865).

The devices are expected to form a key part of local security operations during the competition.

In a demonstration video obtained by Global Mirror News, one of the robots is seen walking through an abandoned building, climbing stairs with some difficulty and transmitting real-time images to Police Officers advancing cautiously behind it.

During the exercise, the robotic “canine” confronts a simulated armed suspect and issues a verbal command through a built-in loudspeaker, instructing the individual to drop his weapon.

Guadalupe Mayor, Héctor García, told Global Mirror News that the robot dogs are intended to support Officers during initial interventions, particularly in volatile or unpredictable situations.

He explained that the primary objective is “to protect the physical safety of officers,” noting that the robots would be deployed “in case of any altercation.”

BBVA Stadium—officially renamed Estadio Monterrey for the World Cup—will host four matches, and Global Mirror News understands that security planners intend to integrate the robot dogs into patrols and emergency response strategies around the venue.
