Retired Delta Judge Found Brutally Murdered in Asaba Home
The Delta State capital has been thrown into shock following the brutal murder of retired Justice Ifeoma Okogwu, whose lifeless body was discovered in her Asaba residence late Sunday night. The circumstances surrounding her death have sparked concerns over security measures for prominent citizens and possible insider involvement.
Justice Okogwu, an Asaba-born former Judicial Officer, was found dead in her home behind The Pointer Newspaper offices. Reports indicate that her hands and legs had been bound and the house thoroughly ransacked, suggesting a violent and meticulously planned attack.
A disturbing aspect of the case is the disappearance of the night security guard assigned to her property. According to family sources, the guard vanished immediately after the incident, raising suspicions of internal complicity.
Speaking to Global Mirror News, the victim’s brother, Ogbueshi Godfrey Okogwu, said:
“We only learned of her death on Monday morning. The morning guard claimed he found the gate wide open and did nothing. Meanwhile, the night guard disappeared. We have provided the Police with all details about the security company, but answers are still elusive.”
The Delta State Police Command has taken swift action. Some security personnel are in Police custody while others remain at large. Investigators have also summoned the owner of the private security company responsible for staffing the residence, though compliance is still being confirmed.
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, confirmed the ongoing investigation:
“Some of the security personnel are in Police custody while one remains at large. The Police are following every lead to ensure justice is served.”
The shocking killing of Justice Okogwu has reignited public debate about the reliability of private security and the safety of prominent figures in Delta State. Authorities have vowed to conduct a thorough investigation to determine how such a targeted attack could occur in a high-profile area of the state capital.
