Ramadan, Lent: Abiodun Calls for Unity, Prayer in Ogun

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has urged Muslim and Christian faithful to embrace the spiritual significance of Ramadan and Lent, describing the twin observances as a rare moment of unity, sacrifice and collective supplication.
In a statement released on Wednesday February 18 in Abeokuta, the Governor congratulated adherents of both faiths on the commencement of their respective fasting seasons, noting that the period represents a time for sober reflection, moral renewal and deeper communion with God.
Abiodun emphasised that abstinence from food and other pleasures during the sacred season reflects a conscious effort to seek divine direction and intercede for the wellbeing of families, communities, Ogun State and Nigeria as a whole.
He described the convergence of Ramadan and Lent as symbolic of the shared spiritual foundations of Islam and Christianity, particularly in the areas of faith, discipline, charity and compassion.
According to him, sustained prayers during the fasting period would strengthen the State spiritually and reinforce ongoing efforts at governance and development.
“The commencement of Ramadan and Lent offers us another opportunity to reconnect with God and rededicate ourselves to values that promote peace and progress,” the Governor said.
He acknowledged the role of prayers and public support in the administration’s achievements over the past six years, assuring residents of renewed commitment to delivering inclusive growth and tangible dividends of democracy.
The Governor also called for continuous prayers for the nation’s leadership and all tiers of Government, expressing confidence that divine guidance would steer the country towards greater stability and prosperity.
He concluded by wishing Muslim and Christian faithful a spiritually fulfilling season marked by peace, unity and lasting blessings.
The statement was signed by Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.
