President Tinubu to Commission Ogun Airport, Airline, Expressway, Other Key Projects

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected in Ogun State on Saturday for an official visit that will see him Commission and inspect a number of major infrastructure projects across the State.

The visit is expected to highlight the State Government’s efforts in expanding Transportation, Aviation, Security, Agriculture and Commerce.

In a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, the President’s schedule includes the inauguration of the Gateway International Airport in Iperu, one of the flagship projects of the Dapo Abiodun administration.

During the visit, Tinubu will also commission two newly acquired aircraft under Gateway Air, the State-owned Airline initiative being operated in partnership with ValueJet. The move is expected to formally launch Ogun State’s entry into the aviation sector.

As part of activities at the Airport complex, the President will witness a cargo demonstration by the Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCOL), an indication that the airport is prepared to begin cargo and freight operations.

Several other projects and assets are also lined up for commissioning at the airport. They include 1,000 electric motorcycles introduced under the State’s electric mobility programme, 80 security vehicles intended to strengthen security operations, and a number of agricultural tractors aimed at supporting farmers and boosting food production.

Tinubu is also expected to inaugurate the newly completed Ilishan-Iperu Airport Road, which links the Airport to neighbouring communities and is expected to improve access to the facility.

The President will further inspect the Nigeria Customs Service Village and Commission the Forward Operating Base building, projects designed to enhance border security, trade operations and customs activities within the Area.

Also on the President’s itinerary is the inspection and commissioning of the Gateway Aviation Village, a development created to complement the airport and support related businesses and services.

One of the major highlights of the visit will be the commissioning of the reconstructed Sapade-Ilishan Road, formerly known as the Old Ibadan Road. The road will officially be renamed the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Expressway.

The expressway is expected to improve movement of goods and people while opening up more economic opportunities across the axis.

Tinubu will conclude the visit with an inspection of the ongoing Sagamu-Benin Concrete Road project, a major federal highway expected to ease transportation along one of the Country’s busiest routes.

The Ogun State Government said the projects reflect its commitment to building a modern and economically competitive State, while the President’s visit demonstrates continued collaboration between the Federal and State Governments.
