Portable Custody Video Triggers Ogun Police Probe
Global Mirror News gathered that the Ogun State Police Command has opened a formal investigation into the treatment of popular street-hop artiste Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as Portable, following the circulation of a disturbing video showing the singer in visible distress while in Police custody.
The clip, which went viral across multiple social media platforms on Sunday, December 11, captured the “Zazoo Zeh” crooner handcuffed, shirtless and appearing to plead with Officers inside a Police facility.
The footage immediately triggered widespread public outrage, with fans, rights activists and industry stakeholders calling for accountability and respect for detainee rights.
Confirming the development, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer said the command does not tolerate torture, intimidation or the public humiliation of suspects, stressing that all persons in custody are entitled to dignity and legal protection.
He disclosed that an internal inquiry has been launched to identify officers involved in the incident and to determine whether any operational rules were violated.
Police sources told Global Mirror News that Portable was taken into custody following a complaint arising from a domestic dispute involving Omobolarinde Akinyanju, popularly known as Ashabi Simple, one of the singer’s partners.
The complainant had reportedly accused the musician of assault during an altercation at a location linked to him in Ogun State. Portable has since denied the allegation.
Global Mirror News further gathered that while investigators are handling the original complaint, the alleged abuse in custody is being treated as a separate and serious matter, with the Police leadership determined to ensure Officers act within the confines of the law.
The command assured the public that any personnel found culpable would face strict disciplinary measures, adding that the findings of the probe would be made public in the interest of transparency and justice.
Human rights groups have also urged the police to ensure Portable’s safety, access to legal representation and fair treatment while investigations continue.
