Police Probe Illegal Birth Centre as Pregnant Woman Dies in Ondo Community

The Ondo State Police Command has launched a full investigation into the activities of an unlicensed medical facility in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area, following the death of a 28-year-old pregnant woman who was receiving care at the centre.

Global Mirror News gathered that the woman, identified only as Iyanu, was admitted to the facility for childbirth when complications reportedly developed during the procedure.

She was said to have suffered severe bleeding after the delivery process was allegedly mishandled.

In a statement released on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed that the incident was reported to the police on January 18, 2026, by a concerned resident of the Sabo area of Odigbo.

The report accused a couple, Kehinde Olawuyi, 36, and his wife, Eniola, of operating an illegal medical clinic in the Orita area of Ore.

According to Police accounts, the victim had been admitted on January 4, 2026, but her condition deteriorated after the procedure.

She was subsequently rushed to another hospital in the area for emergency treatment, where she was later confirmed dead.

Preliminary Police investigations revealed that the operators of the facility were not registered medical practitioners, confirming that the clinic was operating unlawfully.

The suspects have since been arrested and are currently in police custody.

The Police command stated that the case will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations, noting that the incident underscores the dangers posed by unregulated health facilities within communities.

Authorities have urged members of the public to seek medical care only from licensed hospitals and report suspected illegal clinics, as enforcement efforts are being intensified to prevent similar tragedies across the Dtate.
