Police Disrupt Cult Initiation, Arrest 14 Suspected Cultists in Ogun
Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested 14 suspected cultists during a coordinated operation that disrupted an alleged cult initiation ceremony in parts of the state.
The suspects were apprehended following credible intelligence reports indicating that members of a notorious cult group were converging at a secluded location to induct new members, an act capable of threatening public peace and security.
Acting swiftly, a joint team comprising officers from the Anti-Cultism Unit, SWAT, and divisional police units raided the area, leading to the arrest of 13 males and one female suspected to be part of the unlawful gathering.
During the operation, the police recovered locally fabricated firearms, live ammunition, charms, cult insignia, mobile phones, and several vehicles, some of which were reportedly used to convey the suspects to the venue of the initiation.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance stance on cultism, warning that individuals involved in secret cult activities would be decisively dealt with in accordance with the law.
He further urged parents, guardians, and community leaders to caution youths against involvement in cult-related activities, while encouraging residents to continue supporting the police with timely and useful information.
Police authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of preliminary inquiries.
