Police Arrest Viral Video Car Snatcher

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a suspected car snatcher, Iruo Young, aged 42, after a viral social media video showed a Toyota Avalon being stolen at gunpoint in Choba, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Police spokesperson, Superintendent Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Thursday, 16th October, 2025, explaining that the suspect was tracked down following a coordinated manhunt by the Command’s operatives.

According to Iringe-Koko, the robbery occurred at about 3:00 p.m. when the victim was accosted by armed men who forcibly took his Toyota Avalon.

The video of the incident, which spread widely online, helped Police identify the culprits and launch a swift pursuit.

“Through intelligence-led policing, our operatives traced and arrested the suspect in the Ikoku area of Port Harcourt,” she said.

“He has confessed to participating in the robbery and is assisting the Police with useful information to apprehend other fleeing suspects.”

The spokesperson added that the recovered Toyota Avalon and other exhibits, including a firearm suspected to have been used in the operation, are in Police custody as investigations continue.

Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, commended the team for the successful arrest and urged residents to remain vigilant.

He assured that the police would not relent in their efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.

The suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
