Police Arrest Two Nurses Over Alleged Fatal Injection of Young Sisters

The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested two Nurses in connection with the tragic death of two young sisters, aged three and six, following the alleged administration of a wrong injection at the General Hospital in Zuru.

Global Mirror News gathered that the incident occurred on March 18, sparking outrage and grief within the community, as preliminary findings pointed to possible medical negligence during the children’s treatment.

The suspects are currently in Police custody in Birnin Kebbi, while authorities continue investigations to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths.

In response to the incident, the Kebbi State Government swiftly constituted a nine-member investigative panel to unravel the cause of the tragedy. The panel is chaired by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed.

As part of its immediate intervention, the State Government also announced a N10 million donation to the bereaved family. Speaking during the presentation at the Emir’s Palace in Zuru, Ahmed described the gesture as a show of solidarity rather than compensation for the loss.

“This donation is to assist the family in coping with the trauma of this tragic loss. It cannot replace the lives lost, but it is a demonstration that the Government stands with the family in this difficult time,” he said.

The Emir of Zuru, Mohammed Sanusi Mikailu Sami, urged the grieving family to remain steadfast in faith, describing the incident as deeply painful. He also commended Governor Nasir Idris for his prompt response, noting that it reflected compassion and a commitment to justice.

Meanwhile, proceedings of the investigative panel are ongoing, with key Medical personnel already testifying. Those who have appeared before the panel include the Principal Medical Officer, Dr. Thomas Gode, Medical Officer Dr. Mohammed Fakai, and Nurses who were on duty at the time of the incident.

The parents of the deceased children, led by their father, Ibrahim Abdullahi Shuni, alongside other family members, have also provided detailed accounts of the events leading up to the deaths.

Global Mirror News further learned that early findings from the panel have highlighted lapses in communication among hospital staff, raising concerns about systemic issues within the facility that may have contributed to the tragic outcome.

Investigations are ongoing, with authorities expected to determine accountability and recommend measures to prevent a recurrence.
