Police Arrest Neighbour Over Alleged Assault of Six-Year-Old Girl
The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, Bilal Ya’u, over the alleged sexual assault of a six-year-old girl in Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state, Global Mirror News reports.
According to Police authorities, the suspect was taken into custody after the child’s father lodged a complaint at the Alkaleri Divisional Police Headquarters, accusing the young man, who is a neighbour, of luring his daughter into an uncompleted building where the incident allegedly occurred.
Global Mirror News gathered that the case was reported on January 6, 2026, a day after the incident allegedly took place.
The Bauchi State Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib, confirmed that detectives were immediately deployed to handle the matter.
Habib said Officers, led by the Divisional Police Officer of Alkaleri, Kadiri Danjuma, swiftly moved to the scene and ensured the minor was taken to the General Hospital, Alkaleri, for medical examination and treatment.
The Police spokesperson further disclosed that the suspect was arrested shortly after the report was filed and that he reportedly confessed during interrogation.
Global Mirror News gathered that investigators also discovered the suspect had allegedly abused the same child in 2024 during the rainy season, but the incident was not formally reported at the time after the girl’s mother only cautioned him to stay away.
“During questioning, the suspect admitted to the allegation and also confirmed that he had previously harassed the same minor,” Habib stated.
The Bauchi State Police Command said investigations are still ongoing and that the suspect will be charged to court once the process is concluded.
The latest arrest has once again drawn attention to the growing concern over sexual violence against minors across the Country.
Global Mirror News reports that similar cases have recently been recorded in other parts of Nigeria, including Ondo State, where Police arrested a 55-year-old man over alleged incest and sexual abuse of a 15-year-old girl.
Security Agencies and child-rights advocates continue to urge parents, guardians and community members to report suspected abuse promptly, stressing that early reporting helps protect victims and ensures offenders are brought to justice.
