Pastor Apologies After Backlash Over Viral Post Seeking Wife for Autistic Man

The founder of Omega Power Ministries, Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere, has issued a public apology following widespread criticism over a viral social media post in which he sought a wife for an autistic man under his care.
Global Mirror News gathered that the cleric came under intense public scrutiny after a video shared on his Facebook page on Friday showed him appealing for a woman willing to marry the man, while also offering incentives such as accommodation, salary and other benefits.
The video quickly sparked reactions across social media platforms, with many Nigerians condemning the approach as inappropriate and disrespectful to women.
Responding to the backlash on Saturday, Chinyere apologised to women who felt offended by the post.
“I want to apologise to all the ladies who watched the video. I can never degrade any woman. If my comments were seen as degrading, I apologise openly. I am very, very sorry,” he said.
The Pastor explained that his intention was not to demean women but to find long-term care and companionship for the young man, who he said had been abandoned as a child and lives with special needs.
According to him, the man requires constant care and assistance with everyday activities, including feeding, bathing and other basic tasks.
Chinyere disclosed that the man was previously taken to a motherly home by the police but was rejected because of the severity of his condition, leaving him with the responsibility of providing support through his ministry.
He added that his church has over the years taken in hundreds of abandoned children, many of whom have disabilities.
“I have more than 500 children who have been left at my gate over the years. Some have disabilities, including autism. I cannot abandon them, and this young man is no exception,” he said.
The cleric further noted that attempts to hire caregivers for the man had not been successful, as several people employed to assist him were unable to cope with the demands of caring for him.
“I was trying to find a sustainable solution to ensure he is cared for properly. The idea of seeking a partner was intended to provide companionship and support, not to degrade women,” he explained.
Chinyere stressed that the man’s condition is complex, noting that he cannot perform basic tasks independently, does not speak, and struggles to understand instructions.
Despite the controversy, the pastor said his ministry remains committed to providing support for vulnerable children and people living with disabilities.
He added that through his church, several initiatives such as free schools, hospitals and housing support have been established to cater to abandoned children and individuals with special needs.
Chinyere, however, acknowledged that making the request public may have been misunderstood but insisted that his intention was simply to seek help for the man and ensure he receives proper care.
