Oyo Police Detain Three Teenage Girls Over Threatening Kidnapping Call

In a swift and intelligence-led operation on Friday, January 9, 2026, the Oyo State Police Command arrested three teenage female suspects in connection with a threatening phone call that suggested a planned kidnapping in Ikoyi-Ile, Oriire Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the incident began when Ms. Islamiat Omowumi, a resident of Ikoyi-Ile and a meat seller, reported receiving a disturbing phone call from a private number earlier that day.
The caller allegedly threatened to abduct her, demanded human body parts, and insisted on a ransom of Ten Million Naira (₦10,000,000). Harsh consequences were reportedly threatened should the demands not be met.
Responding promptly to the report, detectives from the command activated intelligence-led investigative measures.
Their efforts led to the arrest of three female suspects:
Fathia Nurudeen, 17
Taiwo Fatai, 17
Munirat Saliu, 16.
During Police interrogation, the suspects purportedly admitted to making the call but claimed it was intended as a prank rather than a genuine kidnapping plot.
A small Itel mobile phone believed to have been used in placing the call was recovered from the trio, strengthening the ongoing investigation.
The suspects remain in Police custody as further inquiries are conducted to establish the full circumstances and determine the appropriate legal actions in accordance with Nigerian law.
The Oyo State Police Command used the development to caution members of the public, particularly youths, against engaging in acts that instill fear or threaten lives, emphasizing that such conduct constitutes a serious criminal offence with attendant legal consequences.
Local residents were also urged to promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest Police Station to ensure community safety.
