Ota Toll Gate Tragedy: Abiodun Vows Crackdown on Reckless Truck Drivers, Orders Full Investigation

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has decried the spate of reckless driving by some truck operators along the Sango–Ota corridor, following a fatal accident at the Ota Toll Gate that left seven people dead.

The accident, which involved a trailer tanker reportedly experiencing brake failure, claimed the lives of six men and one woman. Two other victims — a male and a female — sustained critical injuries and are currently undergoing medical treatment. Nine persons were involved in the crash.

Governor Abiodun described the incident as tragic and unacceptable, stressing that preventable negligence must not continue to result in needless loss of lives. He conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for divine comfort and fortitude for them.

The Governor has ordered an immediate and comprehensive probe into the circumstances surrounding the crash, warning that any individual or entity found responsible will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

He also directed security and traffic enforcement agencies — including the Nigeria Police Force, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) — to intensify monitoring and enforcement along the busy Sango–Ota axis.

Meanwhile, the Executive Chairman of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, Hon. Lawal Adewale Wasiu, visited the scene shortly after the incident alongside top Council Officials, where he was briefed by security operatives managing rescue and traffic control efforts.

Expressing deep sorrow over the development, the chairman underscored the importance of strict adherence to traffic regulations. He further warned against roadside trading and other unsafe practices that expose residents and commuters to danger, pledging closer collaboration with relevant agencies to strengthen safety compliance within the area.

The Ogun State Government reiterated its determination to reinforce road safety enforcement and protect lives and property across the State.
