Ota Roads Set for Major Makeover as Ogun Govt Warns Against Political Exploitation
The Ogun State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to rehabilitating major roads in Ota, assuring residents that construction on critical routes will commence soon. Officials also warned the public to be cautious of individuals attempting to politicize genuine concerns for self-serving purposes.
The announcement followed a meeting with the leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ota Branch, who visited the office of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Oluwasina Ogungbade (SAN). The Bar had staged a peaceful protest on October 25, 2025, over the deteriorating State of roads in the Area.
Ogungbade disclosed that six major roads – Joju, Koro Otun, Navy, Isikola, Ilo Awela, and Oju Ore have been awarded to reputable construction firm Craneburg, with mobilisation to the sites expected shortly. Additional projects in the corridor have been divided into four phases: the Itele-Ayobo link road to Lagos (5.3km); Ayobo Mopol–Lafenwa Junction boundary road; Koro Otun phase; and Itele–Lafenwa Junction. Construction on the first two phases will begin immediately.
Acknowledging the concerns behind the NBA’s protest, Ogungbade assured that the Bar’s agitation would receive a positive response. He urged lawyers to use their privileged access to Government channels for more effective engagement and highlighted that Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration has rehabilitated or constructed over 1,500 kilometres of roads across the State, including Ota.
The Government delegation included the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary, Mr. Olusegun Olaotan; the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Engr. Oladimeji Yusuf; and the Special Adviser on Media, Hon. Kayode Akinmade. They emphasized that several of the roads under scrutiny are federal routes, whose repair had been delayed for years until approval from President Bola Tinubu was granted. Rehabilitation of these roads is now underway.
Hon. Akinmade commended the NBA delegation for constructive engagement but cautioned residents against political actors attempting to hijack legitimate grievances. He noted that some groups have hired individuals to spotlight bad roads and malign the Government, even when the roads fall under Federal jurisdiction.
NBA Ota Branch Chairperson, Chief Mrs. Kelubia K. Ajose, and senior advocate Mr. Sola Ojutalayo, SAN, said the protest was driven by widespread frustration among residents. They emphasized that the Bar had deliberately safeguarded its initiative against external hijacking and highlighted human activities contributing to the rapid deterioration of roads in the Area.
The Government reaffirmed its commitment to continued dialogue with stakeholders and disclosed that, in addition to ongoing projects, eleven new road projects were approved in November 2025. Officials assured the public that while temporary inconveniences may occur, the ultimate goal is a lasting transformation of Ota’s road infrastructure.
