Ogun State Marks 50 Years with Statewide Infrastructure Push, Weekly Road Unveilings

The Ogun State Government has launched activities to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the State’s creation, anchoring the Golden Jubilee celebrations on the commissioning of major road and transport infrastructure across the state.

The Anniversary programme officially commenced last week with the unveiling of the Wole Soyinka Train Terminal and the Sagamu–Ayepe Road in Sagamu Local Government Area. This was followed by the commissioning of the Afon Palace Road in Imeko/Afon Local Government Area, underscoring the administration’s focus on balanced development.

As part of the ongoing celebrations, Governor Dapo Abiodun is scheduled to commission additional strategic roads on Friday, January 30, 2026, including the Abeokuta–Obalende Road and the Osinubi New Town Road in Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area.

State officials said the phased road commissioning is intended to highlight key infrastructure delivered across Ogun’s three senatorial districts, reflecting the government’s development trajectory over the past years.

Beyond infrastructure, a series of civic and cultural events have been lined up to mark the milestone. An inter-faith thanksgiving service will hold on Monday, February 2, 2026, at the Arcade Ground, Office of the Governor, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. This will be followed by a state banquet on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at the same venue.

Cultural heritage will take centre stage on Thursday, February 5, 2026, with a carnival float and cultural displays scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m., featuring a procession from Isale-Igbein to Lalubu Road in Abeokuta.

The State Government has also announced that another round of road commissioning exercises will begin the following week, sustaining the momentum of the Golden Jubilee celebrations.

The 50th anniversary activities are positioned not only as a celebration of history, but as a statement of intent on infrastructure-driven growth and statewide inclusion.
