The Ogun State Local Government Service Commission, led by its Chairman, Ms. Olivia Olubukunola Onabanjo, commenced a comprehensive tour of the State’s twenty Local Government Areas on Monday, 20th October, 2025, beginning with visits to Ijebu-Ode and Odogbolu.

The tour is designed to facilitate a first-hand assessment of operational realities and to engage directly with key stakeholders in the Council’s administration.

Addressing staff at both Councils, Ms. Onabanjo called for heightened dedication and professionalism. “This visit is to acquaint the Commission with the on-the-ground realities at the local government level,” she stated. She urged all employees to remain focused on their duties, emphasizing that the Commission will not tolerate acts of indiscipline.

Ms. Onabanjo specifically addressed concerns regarding staff bypassing official channels. She condemned the practice of staff reporting directly to Council Chairmen without the prior knowledge of their Heads of Local Government Administration or Departmental Heads. She also criticized the failure of some officers to properly hand over responsibilities before proceeding on annual leave, stating firmly, “This present Commission will no longer tolerate such acts.”

“You must justify the salaries you receive and the confidence reposed in you,” she added. “We have directed your various Heads of Departments to closely monitor their staff’s conduct and performance.”

In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Engr. Olanike Olawunmi Ogunbona, FNSE, thanked the workers for their dedication and perseverance. She assured them that the Commission is actively reviewing the need for staff upgrades across all twenty Local Government Areas.

“We have met with the political functionaries of the two Local Governments,” Engr. Ogunbona said. “A recurring complaint is that some field staff are not justifying the salaries paid by the Ogun State Government.”

The Permanent Secretary also addressed the issue of punctuality, stating that the Commission will take a strict stance against latecoming. She directed Heads of Departments to enforce attendance standards, noting that they will be held accountable for persistent lateness and absenteeism within their teams.

Responding to staff inquiries on issues of manpower shortages, the contributory pension scheme, and consequential salary scale adjustments, Engr. Ogunbona affirmed that these issues are receiving the active attention of the State Government. She expressed confidence that the ongoing efforts would yield positive results for the staff in due course.
