Ogun Shuts Down Bakery, Church Over Air and Noise Pollution

Ogun shuts down company

The Ogun State Government has sealed off Imole Ayomi Bakery and End-Time Grace Apostolic Church in Abeokuta following repeated/pollution violations of environmental regulations.

Officials of the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA) carried out the enforcement exercise this week after the two establishments failed to comply with earlier warnings issued by the agency.

The bakery, located along Abiola Way in Asero, was closed over air pollution concerns.

According to OGEPA, the bakery’s operations had been releasing harmful emissions into the atmosphere, posing a serious threat to public health.

Meanwhile, the church, situated at Ago-Oko, was sealed for noise pollution. Residents in the area had reportedly lodged multiple complaints about the excessive noise from the church’s activities, which authorities said was endangering community peace and well-being.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Environmental Protection, Farouk Akintunde, who supervised the operation, said the enforcement underscores the Government’s resolve to protect the health of its citizens and safeguard the environment.

“We had warned them severally, but they refused to comply. The Government will not fold its arms and allow activities that threaten public health and disturb the peace of communities to continue unchecked,” Akintunde stated.

He added that the exercise was part of ongoing efforts to ensure that businesses, religious organizations, and individuals operate within environmental standards that guarantee a safe and sustainable environment.

Akintunde further urged residents to support the State’s environmental policies by reporting cases of pollution and other violations to OGEPA for immediate action.

The sealed establishments will remain shut until they meet the state’s environmental compliance requirements.
