Ogun Police Enforce Festive Fireworks Ban with Statewide Security Blitz
As Christmas and New Year celebrations approach, the Ogun State Police Command has launched a comprehensive security operation while strictly enforcing a ban on fireworks, knockouts, and other hazardous celebratory items.
The move aims to protect lives, prevent injuries, and maintain public order during the high-activity festive season.
In an official statement released on Monday, December 15, the command, led by Commissioner of Police Lanre Ogunlowo, directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and tactical units to intensify patrols across residential areas, markets, motor parks, places of worship, hospitals, and major highways.
The heightened visibility is intended to deter criminal activity and reassure citizens and visitors alike.
Police spokesperson CSP Oluseyi Babaseyi stressed that parents and guardians must caution their children against handling fireworks and other dangerous items.
He warned that anyone causing public disturbance, injury, or property damage will be arrested and prosecuted under Nigerian law. The ban, according to Babaseyi, is critical to preventing panic, especially when loud explosions can be mistaken for gunfire or other security threats.
Residents are urged to celebrate responsibly and cooperate fully with police and other security agencies.
The command has made multiple emergency lines available for reporting incidents, including the toll-free Gateway Shield number 0800 000 9111 and additional numbers: 0906 283 7609, 0912 014 1706, 0915 102 7369, and 0708 497 2994.
This deployment is part of a broader strategic plan to reduce crime, minimize traffic-related accidents, and ensure a safe, orderly, and peaceful festive period across Ogun State.
Police officials continue to call for public cooperation as celebrations intensify.
